Overview
How do researchers build confidence in their results as quantum computations become difficult to verify classically? We are hosting a panel and hackathon themed around what goes on behind and beyond Qiskit. We will be working with hardware limitations, mitigating errors, and assessing whether computational results are trustworthy and useful. The panel discussion will connect the technical decisions behind quantum experiments with broader questions about applications, quantum advantage, and the skills students need to contribute to the quantum computing industry.

Staff Research Scientist, IBM Quantum
Quantum Developer Advocate, IBM Quantum
Dr. Brad Mitchell is a Staff Research Scientist at IBM Quantum, where he focuses on demonstrating and extending the capabilities of the IBM's Quantum Computers, using methods like error mitigation. Brad completed his PhD at UC Berkeley in Prof. Irfan Siddiqi's group, where he implemented novel entangling interactions between superconducting qubits.
Dr. Soyoung Shin (Sophy) is a Quantum Developer Advocate at IBM Quantum who develops educational content and hands-on learning experiences for students and researchers. In addition to her work in quantum computing, she serves as an APS Career Mentoring Fellow, helping students and early-career professionals navigate their career paths in science and technology.
